AUDITION CALL: ACTOR/SCRIPT CONSULTANT

The Villains Theatre is looking to hire an actor who identifies as part of an immigrant/newcomer community for the following role in our 2021 production of Observatory Mansions, adapted and directed by Dan Bray:

Twenty (20-40, female) is a woman from a foreign country who does not speak English, suffers from amnesia, and believes she is a dog. In reality, she is fleeing trauma due to an abusive partner. This is largely a physical role. Performers of all genders who are interested in playing a female character are encouraged to apply.

This role includes an option for a pre-rehearsal script consultant component – we would like to help develop the role around the chosen performer and their first language, and want to offer them input into Twenty’s character in the final draft of the script.

Observatory Mansions is a theatrical adaptation of the novel by Edward Carey. A synopsis of the book can be found here.

Interested parties should send an expression of interest along with a current photo of yourself and a resume or description of any past performance experience to info@villainstheatre.com. You will be sent a section of the script to prepare in a video audition format. Timing of video auditions are flexible and can be arranged at a time that is convenient to you. Sides to prepare can be found here.

Pending the COVID-19 situation and advisories at the time, we will be holding a workshop from March 13-14 2021. Rehearsals will run March 22 – April 18, and the production week will take place April 19 – 25 2021. The selected candidate will be paid no less than $620/week for rehearsals and performance, plus no less than $200 script consulting fee. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to info@villainstheatre.com or call 902 406 6262.

Deadline to submit: February 13 2021
